Yazmin Lacey “When The Sun Dips 90 Degrees
I was just surfing the web and found this amazing artist by the name of Yazmin Lacey. She our first artist to kick off Music Life Social’s U.K. Artist Week. This week will be shining a spotlight on a different musical artist everyday from the U.K.
When I heard Yazmin Lacey’s voice it blew my mind. Her sweet and sultry voice put me in a trans. I literally turned my hat to the side, straightened my shirt up and leaned back like I was in mack daddy mode.
She dropped her EP When The Sun Dips 90 Degrees back in March of 2018, and I have to say it is a hidden gem. This EP follows her two recent singles, ’90 Degrees’ and ‘Something My Heart Trusts’, both of which are included here, along with three previously unreleased tracks, ’Heaven’, ‘Body Needs Healing’ and ’Burn & Rise’.
The EP is a embodiment of Jazz, Funk, and Soul. Yazmin Lacey does a excellent job of blending the three with Pete Beardsworth and her band. She showcases her soulful voice with perfect delivery of her unique style.
My personal favorite track is Something My Heart Trusts as she talks about breaking her daily routine in her love life. She emphasizes changes need to be made, “Meet me in the middle”. Her voice fuses brilliantly with the drums and keys.
Heaven, and Body Needs are more laid back records but they really speak to the soul. These records displays her excellent penmanship.
Yazmin describes the EP title as:,”’90 Degrees’ is about that time of the day / night when there’s a shift in pace and energy. When you decide to lock off from the ‘outside’ world and create your own atmosphere, take some time to give thanks for what’s breathing love into your life and smoke off the fuckeries. Everyone needs a little routine for self preservation.”
Yazmin has been featured on several mainstream airwaves such as Jazz FM, BBC Radio 4, 1Xtra and NTS, BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music, Worldwide FM and Mi Soul, plus Spotify love from the likes of The Independent and heavy support from DJs such as Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova, Tom Ravenscroft, Huey Morgan and Jamie Cullum.
The London artist has released her first EP debut EP, ‘Black Moon’, last year. She kept a busy schedule since than with a UK tour scheduled for November, as well as several festival appearances across Europe locked in. Hopefully she makes over to US soon, I am sure she will win scores of fans over here.
