Talib Kweli Gives Update on Delayed Blackstar Album with Madlib
True Hip Hop heads have been clamoring for a new Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def and Talib Kweli Black Star album for a little over two decades now. A year ago Bey revealed that the new Blackstar album — produced by Madlib — is “95 percent done,” and that the follow-up is coming “soon, soon!” in a interview with High Snobiety.
Hope may be on the horizon, Talib Kweli gave an update on the long-awaited Blackstar album produced by Madlib via social media.
In an Instagram post early this morning the Brooklyn rapper shared a photo of himself and Yasiin Bey working in the labe together with the caption hashtags “#sampleclearance” and “#blackstarforever,” signaling the project may actually be dropping soon. Kwelit also posted a recent photo of himself at Dave Chappelle’s Yellow Springs, OH compound with the Bandana producer, Hi-Tek, J.PERIOD, Pharoahe Monch, and DJ Trauma. “Most of what I do I do because I’m a super fan of hiphop and I love this culture. I go very hard in the paint to connect all my a alikes who b alike and c alike. Often I’ve run around this globe too fast to stop and be able to appreciate what my brothers and I continue to build. Last weekend I brought together great minds to help me figure out how to get this Black Star Madlib album to the people properly. I appreciate my squad for inspiring me. Thank you” Kweli wrote in the post. This is another signal the album is coming, but there is no concrete timeline.
There the debut studio album by Black Star was released to critical acclaim in 1998. The album was a socially conscious dealing with political issues, black culture.
The album offered standout tracks such as “Astronomy (8th Light)”, “Respiration” (featuring Common)”, “Brown Skin Lady”, “Definition”, and “Re: Definition”
