George Gaynes Star Of Police Academy & Punky Brewster Passes Away At 98

The entertainment world lost another star veteran actor George Gaynes passed away at the age of 98. There is no official cause of his death but he passed away at his home near North Bend,IN and he is survived by his wife, a daughter and granddaughter, as well as two great-granddaughters.

Gaynes his known for his roles in the  comedy franchise Police Academy and the 1980’s tv series Punky Brewster that starred Soleil Moon Frye.

Despite having his work from the 1980’s garnering the most notice, George Gaynes built up a long and varied resume between the 1950’s and the 1970’s. The earlier phases of his career saw him taking supporting parts in TV shows like Bonanza,Mission: Impossible, and Columbo. This was after a stint as a stage actor / opera singer both before and after World War II, both in Europe and the U.S, which included the role of Professor Henry Higgins in a touring company of My Fair Lady. It wasn’t until the late 1970’s / early 1980’s that Gaynes saw his film career take off, with his roles in Sydney Pollack’s Tootsie and the original Police Academy putting him on the map.

George Gaynes retired from the movie business in 2003 and his last role on the big screen wasFather Robert in the Ashton Kutcher / Brittany Murphy comedy Just Married.
