When actor Paul Walker passed away in 2013 from a tragic car crash while on a break from \u00a0filming 'Fast & Furious 7" studio execs were unsure to continue with the franchise, but they did with the blessings of the Walker family. Charlize Theron \u00a0has received an offer to join the cast of Universal\u2019s next \u201cFast and Furious\u201d movie, \u201cFast 8,\u201d as a new villain. While it\u2019s unclear where negotiations stand currently, sources close to the situation tell Variety that the studio is eager to add Theron to the ensemble cast. Universal had no comment. The Fast & Furious franchise has grossed over a billion dollars, so it's no secret they will continue with making more films. With the success of "Fast 7" production has already been set for "Fast 8" in next spring in April 2017. Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson and Jason Statham are all expected to return, along with other franchise favorites. It was announced in October that, following the success of \u201cStraight Outta Compton,\u201d F. Gary Gray would direct the project. This isn\u2019t the first big star to join the \u201cFast and Furious\u201d cast mid-series. Dwayne Johnson joined the cast in \u201cFast Five\u201d \u2014 Universal likely hopes to mirror that move with Theron\u2019s casting, adding a fresh face for not only \u201cFast 8,\u201d but for the remaining installments.
