The Bessie Smith movie will be premiering on HBO on Sat. May 16th at 8pm.,Bessie,starring Queen Latifah. The film will focus on how Smith rose from turbulence to become the Empress of Blues during the 1920s. Latifah re-recorded some of Smith’s songs for the film and they are expected to be released on the soundtrack. The film also stars Mo’Nique, Khandi Alexander, Michael Kenneth Williams, Mike Epps and Charles S. Dutton.
