by Rafeal Crawford

A$AP Rocky recently opened up about A$AP Yams death this past month.

The compelling interview traces the duo’s path to success and ascendance through the New York scene, from their meeting in 2007 to the A$AP Mob’s now-dominant place in hip-hop.

“Yams was like a mystery,” Rocky said of Yams’ mythic stature in the Harlem hip-hop community.  “He was like the Great Gatsby.”

He also spoke on Yams’ drug use, “He always had a struggle with drugs,” Rocky said. “That was his thing.”

In the interview, Rocky vividly describes the night that Yams died. Rocky was hanging out with A$AP Lou at the Williamsburg apartment Lou shared with Yams.

Around 3am, Lou told Rocky something was wrong. They found vomit on Yams’ bed, and were unable to wake him up. “I just look at his face. I look at [A$AP] Lou. You could just tell. We knew,” Rocky said. “I was scared. I was wilding on everybody, like, ‘Who let him do drugs?,’ even though you can’t blame nobody.”
