Martin Lawrence to be honored at this years VH1 Hip Hop Honors
VH1 just announced who they will be paying tribute to this year for their annual Hip Hop Honors show. For the VH1 Hip Hop Honors show of 2017 they have chosen to honor the 90’s, which has been coined the “Golden Era” when it comes to Hip Hop, however they also will honor television and film too. In addition to giving praises to the 90’s VH1 Hip Hop Honors will pay tribute and celebrate the many accomplishments of famed actor/comedian Martin Lawrence. Because Martin was influential on the Hip Hop culture in the 90’s from his hit Fox television sitcom Martin that aired from 1992-1997. And some of his blockbuster movies such as Bad Boys, A Thin Line Between Love & Hate, Nothing To Lose, and his super funny stand up special You So Crazy, also being the host of Russell Simmon’s Def Comedy Jam.
“Anytime anyone wants to recognize you for your work, it’s an honor. I am looking forward to a really great night of fun and music,” says Lawrence in a statement toBillboard.
The VH1 Hip Hop Honors first aired in 2004 paying tribute to the late great Tupac Shakur, RunDMC KRS One, Public Enemy, & DJ Kool Herc. The following year they honored The Notorious B.I,G, Ice-T, LL Cool J, Salt-N-Pepa, and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five to name a few.
This is not the first time where the VH1 Hip Honors has paid tribute to a certain era or region . The past honorees were Def Jam Recordings, The South, an d New Jack Swing. This years VH1 Hip Hop Honors is titled 90’s Game Changers. Last years Hip Hop Honors paid tribute to the women in Hip Hop like Queen Latifah, Lil’Kim, and Missy Elliott, which 3 million viewers tuned in to watch them honor these legendary women of Hip Hop.
VH1 Hip Hop Honors: 90’s Game Changers will air Sept.18th at 9pm on VH1.
