Fresh off the heels of their performance at the Atlanta Dogwood Festival, Gurufish is badass and i had to find out more about this band. The members consist of: Jimmy St. James – Lead Vocals/Keys, Matty Haze – Guitar, Steve Dixon – Drums, Juan Woodfork – Bass, Matt West – Keys/guit/background vocals, Eugene Russell IV – Sax/background vocals.
Gurufish style is a blend of funk, soul, and pop. Their musicianship was on full display at their live performance. So yes they can get down on the instruments and sing. They have infectious pop melodies, sprinkled with psychedelic twists and a touch of glam-rock. They remind of Parliament/Funkadelic and Sly and The Family Stone.
They shared the staged with some of the best in the business such as: Meaghan Trainor, The Brand New Heavies,
Derek Trucks,The Flaming Lips, Galactic, Cypress Hill, Ghostland Observatory, Mother’s Finest, Nikka Costa, P.M. Dawn, The Spin Doctors,Colbie Caillat, The Indigo Girls, The White Stripes, LMFAO, The Isley Brothers, Foreigner, K.C. & the Sunshine Band, the Rebirth Brass Band, and the P-Funk Allstars.
I recommend you check out their live performance. Check out some of their music below:
