Pharrell gets a Emmy nomination
This week the Television Academy announced this years nominees for the 72nd annual Emmy awards and three of Hip Hop’s legendary producers are nominated. One of them is Wu-Tang Clan’s founding member The RZA and the other Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo of The Neptunes.
The RZA earned his nomination for the score of Hulu’s hit series Wu-Tang: An American Saga in the category of Original Main Title Theme Music. The series is based off the formation and success of the Wu-Tang Clan.

The Neptunes received their nomination for the Netflix documentary The Black Godfather by providing an original song “Letter To My Godfather.” The film is based on music producer Clarence Avant and the song is nominated in the Original Music and Lyrics category.
Pharrell released a statement regarding Clarence Avant “Clarence Avant connects us all through his incredible impact since before I was born up until now,” he said in a statement. “He’s the godfather to so many of us–and not just African-Americans, most of the industry.”
“Letter To My Godfather” will go up against All For Us,” from the HBO series Euphoria‘s And Salt the Earth Behind You, “Eat Sh!t, Bob,” from HBO’s Last Week Tonight With John Oliver episode 629, “Build It Up” from Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere, “One Less Angel” from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, “Memorized” from NBC’s This is Us, and “The Way It Used to Be” from HBO’s Watchmen.
The 72nd Emmy’s is scheduled to air September 20th on ABC.
