Stream Madlib and Four Tet’s New Album ‘Sound Ancestors
Wait for it, Wait for it, its here; Madlib and Four Tet first official collaborative project Sound Ancestors has finally here. The album was first announced in mid December with the single release “Road of The Lonely Ones,” fbreakup song by the 1960s Philadelphia R&B group the Ethics. They dropped two more singles, “Hopprock” and “Dirtknock,” weeks later.
The highly anticipated 16 track album has been worth the wait. Souns Ancestors showcases the producers unique musical arrangements of jazz, funk, soul and street grit. The U.K. producer Four Tet is a veteran in the game, remixing tracks by artists including Aphex Twin, Bicep, Explosions in the Sky, Super Furry Animals, Radiohead, Ellie Goulding, J Dilla, Lana Del Rey, Manic Street Preachers, Sia, Black Sabbath and Madvillain.
The New York Times profiled the project Four Tet stated, ” “I wasn’t looking at it being like I want to stamp my sound onto his in any way,” said Hebden, 43, who arranged, edited and mastered “Sound Ancestors” using hundreds of files that Madlib sent him over the past few years. “It was more, I want to take the things I like the most and make them as good as I possibly can.”
Madlib is a mad scientist and rap genius, so it very rare from him let someone touch his tracks.
In the same profile Madlib stated he hopes to start releasing a new album every month through his Madlib Invazion imprint. He offhandedly mentioned collections he’s put together based around both calypso and industrial music, material he recorded with Brazilian artists and an indie rock album made with the jazz-funk weirdo Thundercat.
Currently Okayplayer is selling the standard black wax edition of Sound Ancestors
