Jermaine Dupri celebrates 25 yrs of So So Def

When it comes to Hip Hop labels a lot of people think of Def Jam, Bad Boy Entertainment, Deathrow Records, or Ca$h Money Records, but So So Def seems to be left out the conversation. However,  next to Def Jam Recordings Jermaine Dupri’s  So So Def is one of the longstanding  labels in HipHop and R&B as they celebrate 25 years of making hits.

This year is a big year for the So So Def family and Jermaine Dupri as his label embarks on their 25th anniversary aptly called So So 25. Dupri will receive an award for Breaking Barriers at the Global Spin Awards this week, which will air on Revolt TV on Feb.22nd and just recently presented with the 2018 Trump Awards’ Music Innovation Award, Dupri will be given the 2018 Legendary Awards’ Trailblazer Award in March. The accolades do not stop there Jermaine Dupri will be inducted to the Songwriters Hall of Fame on June 14th this induction is prestigious because he is the second Hip Hop act after Jay-Z to be inducted.


Dupri broke ground by introducing Kriss Kross to the music industry. He wrote, produced, and marketed the teen Hip Hop act out of Atlanta and struck platinum with their debut album Totally Krossed Out in 1991. He started the label with the iconic all female R&B group Xscape with their platinum debut Hummin’ Comin’ at “Cha  and to follow up in 1994 with his first Hip Hop solo act Da Brat Funkdafied making her the first female MC to be certified platinum.

The Welcome to Atlanta producer brought those hits into the new millenium with co-writing hits No. 1 hits such as Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” and “Always Be My Baby,” Usher’s “Burn” and Monica’s “The First Night.”   Also signing and producing hits for the multi-platinum R&B group Jagged Edge and Bow Wow.
