You can feel the creative souls oozing out of RECESS x Cobrayama Channel Drift EP. This funky duo RECESS is from Fort Smith, Arkansas Cobrayama is from Brooklyn are very dynamic with their future soul concoctions. This combination of East Coast and Midwest is very eclectic and perfect blend of southern soul and northern hip hop.
RECESS x Cobrayama latest project just released today may only be a short 4 track EP, but is powerful enough to deliver just as much heat as a full length album. This duo has managed to fuse together experimental hip-hop, neo-soul, beats seamlessly.
The opening track Layup is as the title implies, smoother than a Michael Jordan switching hands in mid air scoring the ball. The electronic mesh of guitar and horns is absolutely incredible.
Detroit has that smooth bluesy, laid back Sunday Afternoon feel. It definitely is a well crafted track incorporating a variety of instruments and sounds.
To me Kites is for the real hip hop heads, it reminds me of the early experimentation of hip hop and jazz and than accelerates. I can hear some J Dilla and A Tribe Called Quest influence in there. I can certainly picture Black Thought, Kendrick Lamar, or Royce Da 5’9 spitting fire over this. RECESS x Cobrayama put some old soul into this track.
The Clock” has 1980s’ written all over it with the synthsesizer. This instrument defined the 1980s’ in R&B and Soul music. RECESS x Cobrayama blended the electric guitar to give it that extra funk. This record will have you sweating on the dance floor with that feel of nostalgia
I would suggest music lovers put this EP in your rotation by making a purchase over at iTunes.
