U.K. Rapper TrueMendous Has Set The Stage For Musical Evolution In Hop Hop For 2021

I love my job being a writer because everyday I always discover new music and new artist.  Today was no different when I opened a email from U.K. rapper TrueMendous.  She immediately captured my attention with her energetic delivery and substance.  She has incorporated Hip Hop with Neo-soul, Jazz and Pop with precision into a distinctive sound.  Few artists embody the sentiment of music as poetry as emphatically as TrueMendous.

Her standout moment came in 2020 joining High Focus Records family,  alongside labelmates Coops, Fliptrix and Onoe Caponoe.  Off the back of the new partnership, she released her debut EP HUH?, which generated an exceptional response accumulating over 214,000 streams. One of the singles from the project was handpicked to feature on the Adidas ‘COLD.RDY’ campaign and another single from the project was added to the FIFA 21 Soundtrack. She also landed herself the lead roles in the 2020 Christmas Pepsi Max and McVities adverts.

HUH? embodies the adventurousness and inventiveness magnetic and graceful lyricism.  ‘Sumtymes’ is my personal favorite record. It is a infectious track where talks about how sometimes she cares and other times she does not.  At the end of the day she going to keep it 100% and express her true feelings like it or not.

TrueMendous latest single ‘Cause A Scene’ is accompanied with beautiful illustrated visual reflecting societal issues affecting black people.  Some may call ‘Cause A Scene’ riot music, I call it an anthem.  This song speaks to the mind of black people being ignored, it is time to ‘Cause A Scene’ to grab our oppressors attention.

Without a question her work rate is phenomenal and outside of the studio, she has made an impact on the live circuit. In 2019 she secured an impressive 11 festivals slots, including Glastonbury, Leeds and Reading where she opened up on the BBC 1Xtra stage. Through the course of her career, she has also performed at 10 venues across Atlanta and North Carolina, which includes opening up the UK stage at A3C Festival in Atlanta. She has also graced the Lovebox lineup and performed at the likes of Gloucester’s ‘King’s Jam’ festival, Chip Shop in Brixton and both Exit and Sea Dance Festival, which took place in Novi Sad, Serbia and Montenegro. She was also one of the leading artists on the ‘Queens of Art’ tour and it was the first ever UK all female hip hop tour, which was later covered by the BBC.

It is no mere hyperbole to say that TrueMendous is an artist to watch out for not only in 2021 but in the years to come.
