ZENESOUL Releases New Single “That Love”
Nigerian born Neo-Soul artist from Brampton, Canada, ZENESOUL (‘Zen-Soul’) melodic voice will put your mind at ease exhibits a level of poetic acuity. This was my first thought we listened to her. Neo-Soul is supposed to be a deeper abstract feeling of emotions and meaning. ZENESOUL’s newest single “That Love” accomplishes that goal. She gives intimate vibes that are reminiscent of new school neo-soul princess Jhené Aiko.
Unlike most songs of today, “That Love” put you in the mood for love, and breakout the bubble bath and champagne.
“When I first heard the beat from my producer, Larumadeit, I instantly thought of that nostalgic type of love people had in the past,” Zenesoul — Angie Akhinagba — shares of the song teeming with the lush, enveloping sound that’s all her own. “Think: 90s Black love culture found in movies, family TV shows, and R&B music of the time.
“And this is how I usually write… Not with pen and paper, but with hearing the music, getting a theme or a vibe in mind, and then singing melodies and lyrics to expand it into a song.”
ZENESOUL began honing her craft at age 11 writing songs. Her writing prowess is on full display in her music, as she is able to communicate her message with clarity. Her Nigerian background played a role incorporating R&B, Neo-soul and Afro-beats into her music, ZENESOUL creates a sound of her own. Her music can’t be boxed up and shipped out like a factory assembly line, it can only be felt by the soul.

ZENESOUL hit the scene in March of 2019 with her first EP titled Worth. including, Lost and fiery up-beat hit, “Pricey”. Later that year, she debuted “Back to You”, infusing Afro-beats into her signature soul sound. These projects gained the attention of one of Canada’s biggest stages as ZENESOUL performed at “This is Brampton: NXNE” music festival.
The release of “How It Feels” in early 2020 was the break through moment. The single grabbed the attention of Rory Farrell from the Joe Budden Podcast and R&B Radar, along with multiple blog mentions. This allowed for the success of her following single, “Wasteman” in summer 2020, highlighted by Spotify with placements on major editorial playlists, further growing her audience.
Riding the momentum, ZENESOUL released her sophomore EP, “Coffee” in August 2020. The EP included the tragic ballad “Safe” taking listeners through her experience with domestic abuse. Coffee demonstrated ZENESOUL’s growth and skill in songwriting and composition. Coffee was featured on CTV Morning Live, EarMilk and several music blogs.
