Online streaming service Netflix announced they are renewing “Luke Cage” for a second season. A premiere date has not been released.

Season 1 of the Marvel adaptation was a hit starring Mike Colter alongside Rosario Dawson and Mahershala Ali. Unfortunately will do not know the exact viewership numbers because Netflix does not share that information, but it was well received by the public. Their were rumors that so many people streamed the show that it caused Netflix to crash.

The show Luke Cage is about bulletproof, hoodie-loving black superhero played by Colter getting rid of crime is his Harlem neighborhood. The were several political undertones in the show as Luke tackled political corruption. Also it tried to shed the negative image of a black man wearing a hoodie.

Of course their was some hoopla and racist tweets about the series, but overall it has been a success. Netflix will have other Marvel adaptations premiering in 2017 as well such as “Iron Fist,” starring Finn Jones and Jessica Henwick, and “The Defenders”. So stay tuned.
