NBA Great Kobe Bryant Dies At Age 41 In Helicopter Crash

CNN has confirmed former Los Angeles Laker and five-time NBA Champion Kobe Bryant legend Kobe Bryant is one of the 9 dead in a fatal helicopter crash on a hillside in Calabasas, California. Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter Gianna was also on the helicopter,The sheriff’s department received reports of the downed aircraft just after 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m PT), officials said in a tweet.

“Unfortunately there were no survivors,” Los Angeles County Fire Captain Tony Imbrenda told reporters Sunday.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said in an afternoon news conference the passenger manifest for the helicopter indicated nine people were on board. There were no survivors.

Reportedly Bryant and his daughter on their way to her basketball game, along with another parent and child who were not identified when the helicopter crashed,

Bryant tweeted the day before the crash congratulation LeBron James for surpassing him on the NBA’s all-time scoring list Saturday night.

Condolences have been pouring on social media from NBA athletes, officials and fans mourned the loss of Bryant, who was considered one of basketball’s greatest players of all time.

Kobe Bryant was born August 23, 1978 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of former NBA player Joe “Jellybean” Bryant. He was drafted out of high school in 1996 in the first round as the 13th pick by the Charlotte Hornets, who then traded him to the Lakers. He played all twenty years with the Lakers retiring in 2016. In his final NBA game, Bryant scored 60 points, helping the Los Angeles Lakers defeat the Utah Jazz, 101-96. He scored 23 points in the final quarter.

Bryant won an Oscar in 2018 for best short animated film, which was based on a short poem he wrote on his feelings about basketball. His “Dear Basketball” was the first time a former professional athlete was nominated for an Oscar and the first to win an Oscar in any category. Bryant was also the first African American to win in the Best Animated Short Film category.
