Mercston Releases Debut Album “Top Tier”
Over the last two decades UK’s Grime rap genre has expanded from the underground radio stations to mainstream recognition. Bow native Mercston has been one of the catalyst to help the genre keep pushing forward beyond the U.K. border.
The UK is a melting pot of West Indian and African cultures and ethnic groups. Grime is a genre of electronic dance music[ that emerged in London in the early 2000s. It developed out of earlier UK electronic music style called UK garage, and draws influences from jungle, dancehall, and hip hop. Lyrics revolve around the grit and grime of daily urban life and street tales. Early prominent rappers from this genre of music includes Dizzee Rascal, Kano, Lethal Bizzle, Wiley, P Money, Ghetts, Jme, Skepta, Stormzy and others.
Mercston has made wave and has built a following with a decade of mixtapes, singles, and music videos. He has been making noise as a member of The Movement crew, lining up with Ghetts, Wretch 32, Devlin, and Scorcher.
Mercston has put in work honing his skills and creativity finally dropping his debut album Top Tier this past January. The 16 track album is masterpiece displaying a culmination of talent and creativity years in the making. The album features some of the best emcees from the British Black Music, including Ghetts, Devlin, Blade Brown, Louis Rei (WSTRN) and Giggs as well as productions from the likes of Scholar DJ, Merlin and Rxwntree.

As a listener you have to listen with a level of open mindedness. Hip hop is different globally and this just another form of progression.
Mercston also dropped the visuals for the single Top Tier. The eight minute video is very cinematic and riveting.
The album pack some serious heat with excellent production. Mercston has raised the stakes and is finally being recognized for his dedication and hard work.
