Madonna Is Joined By Stevie Wonder In Stunning Prince Tribute At Billboard Awards

Fans were up in arms about Madonna being selected to perform a Prince tribute at the 2016 Billboard Awards. Well she proved everyone wrong and the pop star pulled off a stunning performance. Madonna started off covering “Nothing Compares 2 U” before being joined on staged with Stevie Wonder for the rendition of “Purple Rain”. The audience went crazy because it was so unexpected.

Questlove wearing Prince’s love symbol on his lapel introduced the tribute, comparing Prince’s death to an “earthquake” and allowing a moment of silence to memorialize the singer. Following the silence, Prince’s voice rang through the venue with his iconic “Dearly beloved…” intro to “Let’s Go Crazy.” Madonna, who collaborated with the singer for “Love Song” off Like a Prayer, appeared onstage on a purple throne slowly faced the arena, she began to sing “Nothing Compares 2 U” The singer, wearing a glittery purple suit.

Wonder, in a purple scarf, later joined her for “Purple Rain” as the audience at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas sang along. “Most of all, thank you Prince Rogers Nelson for all that you’ve given us,” Madonna said after the performance.
