Kanye West made headlines yesterday afternoon visiting Donald Trump at Trump Tower in New York. Close friend and frequent music collaborator John Legend called it “very disappointing” that his friend Kanye West made a trip this week to visit Donald Trump.
West tweeted that his meeting with Trump covered issues like “bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago.”
Legend told the French outletClique,“I don’t think it’s impossible to talk to Trump about issues, but I won’t be used as a publicity stunt. I think Kanye was a publicity stunt.” He also stated in the interview with France’s Clique TV, via FACT Magazine. “Whatever’s in his mind, I disagree with him,” Legend said in response to West’s explanation that he wanted a “direct line of communication” with the future president.
In a on stage rant last month West, caused controversy at a concert when he publicly declared that, had he voted in the 2016 presidential election at all, he would have voted for Donald Trump. Also West said that he’s “glad Trump inspired racists to reveal themselves,” cutting the concert short leaving many fans shocked and angered.
John Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen were huge supporters of Hillary Clinton during the campaign.
No matter what the purpose of West’s recent visit to Trump Tower, Legend called the rapper’s backing of Trump a disappointment.
“I think Trump has been corrosive, his message has been corrosive to the country,” Legend added in the new interview. “I think the things he’s promised to do have been very concerning for a lot of people, and for Kanye to support that message is very disappointing. Whatever’s in his mind, I disagree with him.”
Following thier visit, Trump gave West a signed copy of his Time ‘Person of the Year’ cover, calling him a “great friend.”
