DJ Corner: Jeremy Avalon – “South DeKalb Mall” Ode To 2 Footlockers In The Same Building & Popeyes In The Food Court

by Raheem Karim
South DeKalb Mall

Jeremy Avalon put together a special mix that only Atlanta residents can understand called “South DeKalb Mall” South DeKalb Mall embodies everything about Atlanta culture. It is located on the east side in Decatur in a predominately black neighborhood. This mall shall I say hood but in a good way. Everybody is hood rich in here

South DeKalb Mall is where all the dope boys and women with the different color weaves come to go shopping. There is always someone standing out front rapping. It is just your everyday people showcasing there Southern Playlistic style.

I am not going to front you can find a good deal on clothes and shoes here. Jeremy Avalon hit the nail on the head without your wings, philly and Chinese food spots in the food court. Southern hospitality is on display to the fullest. People are friendly and the stores are trying to earn your business. Also I will confirm there are two Footlockers and a Popeyes in the same building. It wouldn’t be Atlanta without it.

The mix itself is SouthernPlaylisticCadillacHOUSEmuzik with a little Outkast blended in the background. It is the perfect definition of South Dekalb Mall.

Jeremy Avalon is one of Atlanta’s premier Deejays. His mixes consist of House music, RnB Trap, Reggae, and Hip hop. He is a master at remixing and blending tracks. One of my personal favorites is his “Beautiful Struggle Series” a mix dedicated to the struggle of minorities which we featured. He currently handles guitar duties for legendary Atlanta band Heavy Mojo, and is a part of the ATL based WERC artist collective.
