Graffiti/Mural Artist Jeks Honors J. Cole with Breathtaking Mural
Over the weekend, graffiti/mural artist Jeks unveiled a mural honoring the Fayetteville, NC emcee J.Cole in Durham. The painting is part of UHill Walls, a dense, walkable art experience with over 40,000 square feet of murals in Durham.
Jeks is based in Greensboro, North Carolina is known globally for his hyper realistic monochromatic portraits and fullcolorful pieces. He recreated a picture by noted photographer Jonathan Mannion, who’s has shot over 300 album covers. He shot some notable album covers like Aaliyah I Care 4 U , OutKast’s Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, DMX Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood, Rick Ross Deeper Than Rap, as well as four Jay-Z albums.
“It was such an awesome few days surrounded by 40+ other artists killing it,” JEKS wrote on Instagram. The Greensboro native has pained murals in Canada and Colombia, as well as monthly commissioned projects. This isn’t the first time he’s worked with Mannion. Nearly a year ago, the duo honored OutKast with a30-foot muralin the Little Five Points neighborhood of Atlanta.
UHill Walls art walk is on 15 contiguous acres in Durham, North Carolina. The event brings together local, national and international artists to create one of the largest consolidated collections of murals in the Southeastern US.
J.Cole has teased fans with singles from his next album the The Fall Off, but has pushed back the release date.
