Dr.Jen Welter shattered another glass ceiling for women as she becomes the first female to coach in the NFL. The Arizona Cardinals made the announcement on Monday that Welter was hired to their coaching staff.
She will be coaching the inside linebackers throughout training camp and preseason as an intern, even though it’s an internship position there’s a possible potential she could be hired on as a permanent on the coaching staff.
Welter played 14 seasons of professional football, mostly in the Women’s Football Alliance. She holds a master’s degree in sport psychology and a doctorate in psychology, and she won two gold medals playing for Team USA in the International Federation of American Football Women’s World Championship in 2010 and 2013.
