I like to put a lot of thought into each entry in The Mental Evolution series because they’re really personal and extend beyond just the mere expression of my usual, musical preferences. I’ve procrastinated creating a new one for the past few years but have been filing selections away in my mental file cabinet for the day I actually attempt the endeavor. Enter Raheem Karim of Music Life Social who hit me Tue evening and asked me to have a mix to him by Fri LOL. As we discussed his expectations, he asked for something to commemorate the celebration of Dr. King’s birthday and I immediately thought this would be the perfect opportunity to download and unleash these ME3 tracks from my brain. I completed this in much less time than usual, so please excuse any execution errors but I hope the message is received, in the words of Brother Farnell Newton, in Peace + Love. About DJ Rahdu
UAB’s college radio station, Blazeradio, is where DJ Rahdu first saw the effects his style of music had on others. After only a few weeks of spinning his brand of Neo Soul, Hip Hop and Rare Grooves he was beginning to get requests to add his musical flair to events around his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. Soon, new radio station Hot 107.7 came calling and Rahdu became a fixture on the station with his Throwback Lunch and Classic Hip Hop Show mixes. However his Neo Soul show, The Diamond Soul XXXperience, the first of its kind in Birmingham, was the conduit for many opportunities to come including a popular, weekly club night that featured Goapele, Eric Roberson, Anthony David & more.
As clubs began to close with increasing frequency in Birmingham, Rahdu created website BamaLoveSoul to find a way to spread his musical gospel around the world. The site quickly gained momentum and became a mainstay for those looking to locate new and interesting sounds to enjoy. In 2012, Rahdu released the first volume of his On Deck compilation series to such critical acclaim, UK label BBE, which released Dilla’s Welcome 2 Detroit and Pete Rock’s Petestrumentals, partnered with Rahdu to release Volumes 2 & 3. In 2014 DJ Rahdu resurrected The Diamond Soul XXXperience and can be found weekly interviewing some of your favorite artists on Art Beats & Lyrics radio (ABLRadio.com).
