DJ Envy is a very busy man these days besides being the co-host of Power 105’s The Breakfast Club with Angela Yee and Charlamagne The God weekday mornings from 6-10am. Envy has gotten back into putting music of his own out. He premiered his new song today Thursday Aug.10th “Text Ur Number” that features New Jersey’s own Fetty Wap and DJ Sliink. Text Ur Number will be off his upcoming album Just A Kid From Queens.
Rapper Fetty Wap is no stranger on making hit records with his success of Trap Queen and My Way, that is why Envy felt that Fetty Wap would be the perfect fit for his single that he produced with Esentrik.
“For me, it was all about the feeling. When I first put that Fetty Wap song in my car, I knew that has a hit-record,” In the article on Billboard Envy says. “It’s kind of like the first time I heard that Cardi B record [“Bodak Yellow”] that’s out right now. As soon as I heard it, it didn’t matter that it was Cardi B, it didn’t matter whether she had a long rap career, it didn’t matter that she wasn’t signed, I just knew that was a record that was going to take off. When that beat hits your soul and gives you that two-step rhythm, you know it’s going to be a hit.”
He also continues why he chose Fetty Wap for his first single off Just A Kid From Queens “I wanted to create something that had that Jersey fist-pump vibe mixed with that Jersey club vibe but when the beat drops, you get that trap music vibe,” and he continues that “he has raspy voice that urban music loves but can cross over to other genres.”
