Dame Dash denies NFT settlemnt claim
Jay-Z and Dame Dash along with Kareem “Biggs” Burke founded one of the most iconic Hip Hop labels in Roc-A-Fella records. The three men went their separate ways in around 2004/05, Jay-Z went on to become President of Def Jam records and Dame pursued various business ventures from opening art galleries to working with independent artists such as Curren$y. When Roc-A-Fella split Dame Dash was able to maintain the rights to Jay-Z’ classic debut album Reasonable Doubt.
Last summer Jay-Z and his legal team filed a lawsuit against Dame for allegedly attempting to auction off Reasonable Doubt album as a NFT without their permission. They claim at the time Dame was “frantically scouting for another venue to make the sale.” Dame refuted that claim stating he was only trying to sell his stake for Reasonable Doubt and countersued for $1 million dollars.

This week Jay-Z’s legal team released a statement saying “in the process of meeting and conferring to determine whether they can reach a settlement agreement that would resolve this case.” Well apparently Dame Dash feels otherwise because he went to social media and released a statement “Please don’t believe this hype we are no where near a settlement,” Dash declared while sharing a screenshot of an article on the so-called settlement talks. “They accused me of doing something i did not do and now they have to prove it…and i can sell my share anytime I want #askthejudge.”
Dame wants Jay-Z and Kareem “Biggs” Burke to settle this out of court because he feels this is not what they do given how they used to hustle together. “#jayz and @biggsburke if you wanna settle this holla at me,” he added. “we use to hustle together…court is corny…let’s talk like men for the culture… I dare y’all to respond #doitfortheculture.”
It seems there is no bad blood between the two men because Jay-Z thanked Dame during his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame speech “We was like, we gonna create our own company, you know?” he said. “That’s Hip Hop. And we created this company called Roc-A-Fella Records. Shout out to Dame [Dash]; I know we don’t see eye to eye, but I can never erase your accomplishments, and I appreciate you and thank you for that.”
And Dame also reiterated in his response that their is no beef “I’m glad he said it for the culture. We need to squash everything. So hopefully if that was an extended [olive branch], I’ll spin one back.” and also stated “I have no beef with [him] if [he has] no beef with me. Let’s get the lawyers out of it then. Let’s talk like men, but I definitely appreciate it.”
