August Greene debut album drops in March
We have seen Jay-Z and Kanye West make a collaborative album and other musical acts like The Firm that consisted of Nas, AZ, and Foxy Brown, R.Kelly and Jay-Z with their Best of Both Worlds. We Hip Hop fans are patiently waiting for the Kendrick Lamar and J.Cole collaboration, however I don’t they are waiting patiently in my opinion.
Well it seems that there is another collective of artists coming together to form a supergroup. Chicago MC Common, drummer Karriem Riggins, and pianist and three-time Grammy Award winning producer Robert Glasper have merge their talents together to form the group August Greene. The trio August Greene just released Optimistic featuring R&B songstress Brandy. The song Optimistic is a cover from Sounds of Blackness on this version Brandy is doing the vocals while Common is rapping.
Optimistic will appear on their self-titled debut album August Greene, which will be released on March 9th via Amazon Original. August Greene performed a session for the NPR Tiny Desk series at the White House. Common last release was his 2016’s 11th studio album Black America Again and just recently appeared in the film John Wick:Chapter 2 that starred Keanu Reeves, and he serves as one of the producers of breakout series The Chi that airs on Showtime on Sundays.
Robert Glasper is a Houston, Texas native that has produced for the likes of Kendrick Lamar off his critically acclaimed album “To Pimp A Butterfly” for the song “These Walls,” which won BestRap/Sung Collaboration at the Grammy’s in 2015. He also worked with his fellow band member Common for the song “Letter for the Free” co-written by both and was nominated for a Emmy Award for Best Original Song. Karriem Riggins also worked with Common and doing production for artist such as Kanye West, Kaytranada, Norah Jones, and J. Dilla to name a few.
