A petition has started by Care2petition to have R&B singer R.Kelly dropped from his Sony label amidst allegations of him running a sex cult. A story broke via Buzzfeed that R.Kelly, who dubbed himself the pied piper of R&B was reportedly holding women against their will ranging in ages from 18-26 on his properties he owns in Atlanta and Chicago.
According to the featured article Kelly controls every aspect of their lives, including “what they eat, how they dress, when they bathe, when they sleep, and how they engage in sexual encounters that he records.” If Kelly’s rules are broken, in response, the crooner physically and verbally abuses the women, as written in the article.
On the Care2petition website they wrote why Sony should drop him from their label We must not let habitual abusers float above justice simply because they are rich and famous,” the Care2 petition reads. “Let’s work together to turn R. Kelly into a symbol for victim’s rights, reminding abusers everywhere that no one is untouchable.”
When the allegations about R.Kelly broke this week his lawyer, Linda Mensch, said in a statement that her client“unequivocally denies”the allegations. “Mr. Robert Kelly is both alarmed and disturbed by the recent revelations attributed to him,” Kelly’s lawyer, Linda Mensch, told Pitchfork in a statement. “Mr. Kelly unequivocally denies such accusations and will work diligently and forcibly to pursue his accusers and clear his name.”
Currently the Care2petition has 10,900 signatures with their goal is to reach 11,000, and as of now Sony has not issued a statement on the petition nor the allegations.
