“5 Days Of Phife” Day 3: “Linden Blvd. Represent, Represent…”

Phife

The year was 1993 and A Tribe Called Quest pulled it off again with another classic Midnight Marauders. Rarely musical groups give you back to back classic albums, and that’s what makes ATCQ special. Again Phife sets it off with Linden Blvd. represent, represent off the album cut Steve Biko (Google him). On the their ode to women “Electric Relaxtion” “I like ‘em brown, yellow Puerto Rican, & Haitian” is probably one of Hip Hop’s favorite qoutables.

Midnight Marauders showcased Phife’s ability that he has the lyrics and charisma to give us that same magic he did on The Low End Theory. This album was significant because he was moving from New York to Atlanta.

“I got more hits, than the Braves and the Yankees” Clearly you could tell Phife was not just a fair weather fan when it came to sports. He could tell you stats about every player on any of the three major sports team roster. He would say he’s playing like hot garbage or he’s a star in the making. Phife was like our Hip Hop version of Bob Costas givng us play by play action through his rhymes. On every Tribe album we knew as listeners what team or player was on top.

PHIFE FOREVER!
