Cookin Soul just dropped a remix to Kendrick Lamar’s newly released single “The Heart Part 5”, the first single from his highly anticipated fifth studio album Mr. Morale And The Big Steppers. It’s the rapper’s first solo single since 2018’s ‘All The Stars’ from the Black Panther soundtrack. After the long hiatus, the single was met with high praise Kendrick’s lyrical content.
What really had social media buzzing was not the song itself, but the accompanied video. Lamar uses deepfake technology to transform himself into people such as Kanye West, Kid Cudi, OJ Simpson, Will Smith, Kobe Bryant, Jussie Smollett, and Nipsey Hussle. The transformations appear to correlate with the lyrics: Discussing bipolar disorder when he’s West, and Simpson’s references a “bulletproof rover,”
Cooking Soul is known for seamless mashups and blends of classic songs across different genres of music. Not only did they remix Kendrick’s track, but they added visuals. The video consist of different artist and actors rapping along to the lyrics such as Biggie, Tupac, Chadwick Boseman, Eazy E and others.
