There is a old saying that athletes want to be rappers, and rappers want to be athletes. Well World Title cruiserweight boxing contender, Lawrence Okolie is shooting his shot with the release his single ‘TKO” produced by IVN. The undefeated boxer is a rising star in UK boxing, signed to Anthony Joshua Boxing and Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing. He is coming out swinging in with his debut single, taking knockout shots.
Covid-19 pandemic put a lot people’s careers on hold, but allowed Okolie to pursue his other passion, music, when he was unable to train due to the pandemic. “The song was recorded in Hackney, close to where I grew up”, says Lawrence. The record packs a powerful punch similar to Okolie in the ring, featuring his staunch and distinctive baritone vocal, ‘TKO’ hears Lawrence weigh in heavy with considered bars about his undefeated skills and lavish lifestyle.
Lawrence Okolie life story is inspirational and extraordinary. Ten years ago Okolie was flipping burgers at McDonalds and was being and was classified by doctors as obese. In 2012, between his shifts, Lawrence had a life changing event when he watched the London Olympics and managed to catch another U.K. boxer Anthony Joshua’s gold medal victory. From that point on he went from a obese teenager to a muscle bound machine to an Olympian, representing Great Britain at Rio in 2016.
As of October 2020, he is ranked as the world’s seventh best active cruiserweight by The Ring magazine. Okolie has dominated the European cruiser weight scene with 13 knockouts out of 15 undefeated fights.
The WBO cruiserweight title will be on the line between Lawrence Okolie and Poland’s Krzysztof Glowacki scheduled for March 20th.
