Toronto, Canada’s most notable music festival North by Northeast (NXNE) is making it’s return this June. The COVID-19 pandemic shut music venues down globally over the past two years, but now venues are reopening.
NXNE has made a name for itself by helping emerging bands and solo artists to being discovered. Toronto’s music scene is thriving due to it’s diverse culture and financial investment from the government and partly from the country’s TV and radio broadcasters, who are legally required to pay into a “talent development fund”
North by Northeast Music Festival has featured more than 300 of the world’s best artists before they became house hold names such as Grimes, Lumineers, Daniel Caesar, Run The Jewels, The Weather Station, Sarah Harmer, Metz, Sarah Harmer, the Arkells, Sam Roberts, Lizzo, Future Islands, Vince Staples, Billy Talent, Post Malone, and Feist.
NXNE is about the artist, making the music accessible by removing financial barriers from connecting artists with audiences and they have eliminated all fees to apply to play the Festival and all performers are paid, and admission to Club Shows in 2022 is low cost or free.
“We’re back and taking over more than 20 of Toronto’s top live music venues,” NXNE Founder and President Michael Hollett reveals. “We want to make it very easy for people to come back to live music and experience stage-hopping like festivals used to be.”

NXNE will take place Tuesday, June 14th – Sunday, June 19th in Toronto. A full festival five-day passes are $20. A preview of the forthcoming roster will be announced on May 4th, and passes are available for sale now.
