Watch the Trailer for RZA’s Musical Drama Love Beats Rhymes Starring Azealia Banks

Wu Tang Clan member RZA shared the first trailer for the musical drama Love Beats Rhymes. RZA announced in 2015 he was directing the full length featuring starring Azealia Banks,Common and Jill Scott. It was originally titled Coco.

The film is based around Azealia Banks, who plays a 25-year-old aspiring rapper named Coco who is trying to navigate her way into the music industry.

It comes as a shocker that RZA and Azealia Banks are working together because of the fallout between the two last year. Banks claimed that actor Russell Crowe assaulted her at a party RZA invited her too. RZA countered by saying that Banks instigated things and Crowe had to remove her.

Banks has had a up and down musical career often gaining more notoriety for her twitter rants. Azealia Banks is currently on a North American tour throughout October. Her most recent album was Slay-Z, released last year.

“I’m extremely excited and vigorously inspired to be working with Azealia Banks in my new directorial installment,” RZA said in a statement. “Producer Paul Hall and I have assembled a cool and eclectic cast to surround Azealia. Our story, which is set in today’s contemporary youth culture, will bring a new voice to cinema that needs to be heard.”

Lucien Laviscount, Lorraine Toussaint, Hana Mae Lee and John David Washington round out the cast.

RZA has acted in several movies, including Coffee and Cigarettes, American Gangster, Gospel Hill, Life Is Hot in Cracktown, Ghost Dog, Funny People, Derailed, Due Date and Repo Men. He also appeared in the Showtime TV series Californication. His directorial debut is for the film he co-wrote and in which he plays the title role, The Man with the Iron Fists, also starring Russell Crowe.
