Chadwick Boseman’s final role
Netflix just released the trailer for the Denzel Washington produced film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom starring Viola Davis and the late great Chadwick Boseman.
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is an adaptation of August Wilson’s 1982 play that won a Pulitzer Prize. The film is based on Ma Rainey also known as the “Mother of Blues” who is in a constant struggle with her manager/producer on how her music should be portrayed. Viola Davis starring as Ma Rainey went deep into character with this role from Rainey’s characteristics to how she lived.Chadwick Boseman plays the role of Levee, a talented trumpet player in Ma Rainey’s band that has an eye for her girlfriend, however this would be Boseman’s final role before he passed away due to being diagnosed with colon cancer.

The film is centers around “fearless” and “fiery” in her pursuit of claiming ownership of her music during one scene. It also reads that Boseman’s character Levee “spurs his fellow musicians into an eruption of stories revealing truths that will forever change the course of their lives.”
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is buzzing amongst industry insiders and many believe the film will receive numerous nominations, if not take home awards as well. The film directed by George C. Wolfe also stars Colman Domingo, Glynn Turman, Taylour Paige, Dusan Brown, and Michael Potts.
