Top Dawg Entertainment label signee SiR visited NPR’s Tiny Desk series D.C. studio to perform tracks off his latest album Chasing Summer. The Inglewood, CA was joined by by his mother and his older brother and another singer as background vocalists in addition to his band.
SiR’s performance was very impassioned singing popular cuts for his album with themes of love and regret. “The Recipe” tackles desires, commitment and heartbreak issues that a lot of couples deal with. His second selection “New Sky,” showcases his vocals harmonizing a short rendition.
Before Sir continued to the next song, he eventually revealed the burden weighing on his heart. He told the NPR crowd he’d lost his infant godson a few days prior and dedicated the performance to him. “We’re doing this for him. It took a lot for me to be here today …but we’re gonna get through this.” He sung the next song “Wires In The Way,” SiR expresses knowing that nothing lasts forever, but hopefully love can be rekindled.
The last track was a crowd favorite and probably the best song on the album “John Redcorn.” The touches on something that has happened to most of us, wanting special relationship with someone, but it is not meant to be.
SiR will be an R&B mainstay with his brilliant ability of songwriting and singing.
