The female emcee will rule tonight and hold court. VH1 Hip Hop Honors: All Hail The Queens. Lil’ Kim joins an all-female squad of honorees that have blazed a path in the male-dominated industry of hip-hop including Missy Elliott, Queen Latifah and Salt-N-Pepa.
Teyana Taylor announced via instagram yesterday that she was chosen to pay tribute to Lil Kim at the ceremony.
Actress and music superstar Queen Latifiah’s efforts in the music industry will be celebrated with a tribute performance from Common, Da Brat, Naughty by Nature, MC Lyte, Rah Digga, Suga T, Yo-Yo and Monie Love.
Missy Elliot will also receive honors for her award-winning contributions to the music industry. Many of the artist Elliot has coached and influenced over the years will give a performance tribute including Timbaland, Pharrell, Remy Ma, Nelly Furtado, Trina, Eve, Tweet, Monica, Keyshia Cole, Jazmine Sullivan, Raven Symone and Fantasia.
Iconic trio Salt-N-Pepa featuring DJ Spinderella will also be honored for their influence on the music industry with a tribute by Amber Rose, Keke Palmer, Ashanti and Dreezy will tribute their career.
VH1 Hip Hop Honors makes its return after a six-year hiatus on Monday (July 11) airing live from New York’s David Geffen Hall at the Lincoln Center. VH1 Hip Hop Honors has recognized the luminaries who broke new ground and propelled the genre into the cultural phenomenon it has become.
