Scarface Movie Reboot Officially In The Works On Thursday, Variety reported the 1983 cult classic Scarface is officially in the works. The reboot will be directed by Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino. The 1983 remake is crime drama film directed by Brian De Palma, written by Oliver Stone, and tells the story of Cuban refugee Tony Montana (Al Pacino) who arrives in 1980s Miami with nothing and rises to become a powerful drug lord. The cast also features Michelle Pfeiffer, Steven Bauer. The film grossed $45 million at the domestic box office and $66 million worldwide.Steven Bauer was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Giorgio Moroder earned a nomination for Best Original Score. Entertainment Weekly ranked the film #8 on their list of "The Top 50 Cult Films," and Empire Magazine placed it among the top 500 films of all time, at #284. As some artist have compared themselves as Tony Montana or have reenacted scenes in album skits. The famous quote "Say hello to my little friend!" from the film's climactic scene has become a pop culture staple. The original version of the film premiered in 1932. The screenplay followed Antonio “Tony” Camonte–inspired by Al Capone. Camonte rises through the underbelly of Chicago. The distributor Universal has not announced casting as of yet. According to Variety, the film’s screenplay will be updated core story of the previous chapters. An immigrant protagonist makes his way to America, where he fights through the underworld to achieve the American Dream.
