Jill Scott & Erykah Badu to perform w/ The Roots One of the biggest festivals of the summer is gearing up for another all-star lineup. The Essence Festival, which takes place in the Big Easy better known as New Orleans during the weekend of fourth of July will have a performance you do not want to miss. Well it seems that two of the most iconic voices in Neo-Soul and R&B Jill Scott and Erykah Badu will be performing together at Essence Fest 2018. The performance will be curated by The Roots and also will feature a performance by Snoop Dogg. Erykah Badu collaborated with The Roots on their 1999 album Things Fall Apart off the lead single "You Got Me," which was written by Jill Scott. The two singers performed You Got Me together on Dave Chappelle's Block Party that was released in 2006. The Essence Fest lineup consists over 40 acts and more are being added. The headliners thus far are Janet Jackson, Mary J.Blige, and Miguel also Xscape and Fantasia. Other acts that are scheduled to perform are 112, Ro James, H.E.R, Daniel Caesar, Marsha Ambrosius, Mali Music, Kelela, Kevin Ross, and Teddy Riley’s New Jack Swing Experience featuring Wreckx-n-Effect, BlackStreet and Guy. The Essence Fest will have a Dj curation, where actor Idris Elba and rapper MC Lyte will have their own DJ set marking the first time the festival will have DJ set performance and also a podcast The Read hosted by Kid Fury and Crissle will have an interactive music experience. In 2018 women are at the forefront of a seismic shift reverberating across the cultural landscape,” said Essence Communications president Michelle Ebanks in a press release announcing the lineup. “This movement comes to life for our community at the Essence Festival.” The 2018 Essence Fest will be held July 5th-8th at the SuperDome in New Orleans.
