Sauce Money Calls Out Diddy and Jay Z
Former Jay Z collaborator Sauce Money responded to Diddy’s recent criticism regarding the Recording Academy’s lack of respect for black music especially hip hop. At Clive Davis’ pre-Grammys gala, where Combs was honored with the Icon Award, the music mogul demanded change.
““So I say this with love to the Grammys, because you really need to know this, every year y’all be killing us man. Man, I’m talking about the pain. I’m speaking for all these artists here, the producers, the executives,” he said. “The amount of time it takes to make these records, to pour your heart into it, and you just want an even playing field.”
“In the great words of Erykah Badu, ‘We are artists and we are sensitive about our (expletive).’ We are passionate. For most of us, this is all we got. This is our only hope,” Combs continued. “Truth be told, hip-hop has never been respected by the Grammys. Black music has never been respected by the Grammys to the point that it should be.”
Sauce Money wasn’t buying it, at least not the words coming from Diddy. Sauce is also and is skeptical Jay Z’s of his true intent. Sauce tweeted out, “Just watched @Diddy Icon acceptance speech at the @RecordingAcad, and I can honestly say I respect the message, just not coming from him. He practices the same backdoor politics against his own people. Him and his friend Jay Z. If the Grammys on the clock, then y’all are too!”
There is bad blood between Sauce Money and the two moguls because of their treatment of artist. He was featured on Jay-Z’s debut, Reasonable Doubt, on the DJ Premier-produced “Bring it On”, on In My Lifetime, Vol. 1, on the track “Face Off.” Having worked with Diddy on songs like “I’ll Be Missing You” the beef goes way back. ; he recently dissed Puff on wax with “Love Tap,” accusing the mogul of being stingy with the royalties among other cardinal sins.
