On The Rise: Butterscotch – THE ONE WOMAN SYMPHONY “The Scotch Tapes Vol. 2”

by Raheem Karim
butterscotch

Butterscotch marches to the beat of her own drum which is self evident in her music. Nick named “The One Woman Symphony” her goal is to conquer all fronts in the world of music. She has the rebel look with the signature mohawk hairstyle and slashes in her eyebrow.

Butterscotch, the retro-futuristic, voice percussionist virtuosa, is a force to be reckoned with in today’s music scene. Being the world’s first female beatboxing champion, she has created a unique style. While she beatboxes, she sings and plays either guitar or piano, performing her own compositions and jazz standards.

After gaining national attention as a finalist on NBC’s Americas Got Talent her popularity risen rapidly. She found herself performing alongside music legends such as Earth, Wind & Fire, Nile Rodgers, Chick Corea, Bobby McFerrin, Marcus Miller, Wyclef Jean, KRS-One, Mike Patton, Dan the Automator and has shared the stage with Stevie Wonder, Talib Kweli, Will.I.Am, Raphael Saadiq, and Rahzel. She is featured on albums by SMV (Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten) and on George Benson’s “Song’s & Stories”.

Butterscotch now resides in LA and has released a series of EP’s called “The Scotch Tapes.” I listened to The Scotch Tapes Vol 2 and you can hear the heavy influence of Jazz, Classical, Hip Hop and R&B.

One of my favorite tracks is the hip hop, soul infused “Through the Darkness ft. Chali2na” which is very empowering and offers hope for people in the struggle. Scotch also sings about her own personal feelings and battles on being herself with the track “Accept Who I Am”, basically saying Can I Live!

The EP is a underground gem because Scotch brings a unique sound to the project, I would suggest you add this to your collection.
