Nas is officially a Grammy Award-winning rapper wining Best Rap Album
Hip Hop Legend Nas finally broke through and won Best Rap Album—his first ever Grammy Award—atthe 2021 Grammys. After 14 nominations, and numerous classic albums the rap veteran’s 13th studio albumKing’s Disease produced by Hitboy took home the Grammy that has eluded him.
Nas beat out stiff competition from D Smoke (Black Habits), Jay Electronica (A Written Testimony), Freddie Gibbs and the Alchemist (Alfredo), and Royce 5’9″ (The Allegory) for the honor.
Nas has come close to taking home the Grammy but could never manage to edge out the other nominees. He has 14 total nominations. In 1996, he was nominated for Best Rap Solo Performance for “If I Ruled The World (Imagine That).” In 1999, 2007, 2008, and 2012, he was nominated for Best Rap Album for projectsI Am, Hip Hop Is Dead, Untitled,andLife Is Good.2012 saw Nas getting noms for “Daughters” (Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance) and “Cherry Wine” with the late Amy Winehouse (Best Rap/Sung Collaboration).
Fans and contemporaries celebrated his victory post congratulatory messages.
Hit-Boy shared a message on his Instagram after learning about the news. “Bittersweet moment for me. I’m dedicating this years Grammy for best rap album to Reggie Warren from the legendary R&B group troop who sadly passed away today 🥲. I love my brothers Nas and Big Sean. We got more work to do KINGS DISEASE!!!”
