Queen Latifah to be recognized at Revolt Music Conference

Diddy will host his 4th annual Revolt Music Conference this October, where emcee turned actress Queen Latifah will receive the Icon Award.  Revolt is honoring Queen Latifah for her accomplishments in music, TV, and film. The New Jersey native, Latifah got her start in music when she released her debut album All Hail the Queen in 1989 with her breakout single Ladies First that featured Monie Love when she signed to Tommy Boy Records. Latifah gained a musical success with her ode to female anthem U.N.I.T.Y. off her third album Black Reign.

As an actress Latifah had small, but memorable roles in Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever, House Party 2, and Juice. On the small screen she was most known for her role as Khadija on the ’90’s sitcom Living Single that ran from 1993-1998. However, when it came to the silver screen she showed her acting chops as Cleo in an all female lead film Set It Off, that co-starred Jada Pinkett-Smith and Vivica A. Fox. From there she’s starred alongside Laurence Fishburne in Hoodlum, Denzel Washington and Angelina Joile in The Bone Collector. She gained mainstream success and recognition for her role in the musical film Chicago. Queen Latifah has won a Grammy Award, Emmy Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Golden Globe Award. She also received a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame in 2006. Recently Latifah had success at the box office with her all female comedy Girls Trip that reunited her with Jada Pinkett-Smith, and also stars Regina Hall & newcomer Tiffany Haddish. The film had the biggest opening weekend for a comedy this year grossing over $30 million.

The four-day event will take place in Miami, FL at the Eden Roc Miami Beach Resort this fall on Oct.12th-15th. Artist slated to perform are Lauryn Hill, 2 Chainz, SZA, and French Montana.
