LL reaches out to Hip Hop pioneers

Legendary rapper/actor LL Cool J has announced he is taking his Rock the Bells platform to another level. LL will be launching Rock the Bells website and the unique thing about this is he will be offering minority ownership of the company to some of Hip Hops legends.

The NCIS L.A. so far has reached out to RUN DMC,

Salt N’Pepa, Roxanne Shante, Eric B., Big Daddy Kane, and B-Boy Crazy Legs among others for a stake in the company. In a statement to Hip Hop DX he says “I’m still talking [with others],” he tells HipHopDX. “The thought process is look, are you a pioneer or a founder? How much energy did you put into the culture? Did you contribute? Did you earn it? And I feel like the answer is yes to everybody that I’ve given ownership to. I feel like they really, really deserve it.”

This is groundbreaking because LL is literally giving back to the culture for those who helped pave the way for artists that were not able to capitalize off of their success back in the day.

“I think that for so many years, it was always the mega-company, the trillionaire company, the zillionaire company capturing all of the value that was created by Hip Hop culture,” he explains. “And I felt like, why not [give back]? Yes, this is a big platform. And we know coming off the [satellite radio] channel that this thing is a really special thing.

“Why not let some of those pioneers actually capture value? People that never got a bite at the big corporate apple, so to speak, just because of timing. Just because of when they emerged on the scene. So, that’s what the process was.”

The Def Jam artist knows in order for Rock the Bells to be a success it will need heavy traffic to the site whether it be purchasing merchandise or reading articles. Here is the link for Rock the Bells .
