This years Academy Awards has been the topic of discussion in the entertainment world because of the lack of diversity among the nominees for the second year in a row. With the Oscar snubs of “Straight Outta Compton”, ‘Concussion”, & “Creed”. Many celebs have voiced their opinions about the awards show having no people of color being nominated from Jada Pinkett-Smith to George Clooney.
Jada released a video this past weekend on why she was not attending the Oscars and former “Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air” actress Janet Hubert posted a video of her own stating that Jada is boycotting because her husband Will Smith was not nominated.
Here’s Jada response to Huberts comments
“This whole Oscar controversy isn’t really about the Oscars,” Pinkett Smith, 44, said in a new video shared by Entertainment Tonight. “Really, in my plea to ask all communities and people of color to take back our power is so that we can use it in all sectors of our community, and right now, specifically with African-American people, we have some very serious issues that I think we as people have to move together on.”
“I’m hoping we can find ways to step together in this instead of finding ways to fight each other,” she added. “I got love for everybody.”
Will Smith backed his wifes’ comments by saying he will not attend the Oscars as well.
“We’re part of this community,” he said. “But at this current time, we’re uncomfortable to stand there and say this is okay.”
