The USA Women Gymnastics Team is set for the the Summer 2016 Olympic in Rio Rio de Janeiro. After two heart pounding nights of competition in at the Olympic Trials in San Jose, California the team was officially named. Gabby Douglas winner at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where she won gold medals in the individual all-around and team competitions will have a chance to repeat.
With five spots on the line, the gymnast with the best all-around score over the two days of competition automatically qualified. A committee led by gymnastics coach Marta Karolyi decided the other four spots. Gabby didn’t have the most spectacular performance of the trial. She entered Sunday night in seventh in the standings.
She started off on the right foot on the vault when she stuck a double layout Yurchenko, earning a score of 15.000. The uneven bars went even better, as she posted a 15.250.
For the second straight time, however, she fell off of the balance beam, dropping her score to 14.100 after the 2.200 deduction.
Despite the fall, her display on the uneven bars did her a ton of good, as it is Team USA’s most glaring need in the all-around competition. The U.S. women’s gymnastics team has won eight medals in the all-around competition at the Olympics, including two gold medals in 1996 at Atlanta and in 2012 at London.
