Azealia Banks Sells First-Ever Audio Sex Tape NFT Worth $17,000
Just when you thought you heard it all, you have not. On Monday, outspoken rapper Azealia Banks jumped into the NFT game, recently sold an audio-only recording of a sex tape with her fiance, artist Ryder Ripps, for ten units of Ethereum, or over $17,000 USD. Rulton Fyder, the tape’s buyer, got full rights of ownership, distribution, and display, as well as a signed vinyl LP.
For those not familiar with a NFT, it is a non-fungible token existing on a blockchain. A token is the sign of ownership of an asset. A Bitcoin is the title of ownership to the underlying value of the Bitcoin. A token is a digital asset, stored on the blockchain. As the blockchain is transparent, it is easy for all to see who is the owner of what token.
Whether its digital sports cards or digital artworks, NFTs have been taking the internet by storm and have simplydoubled their total volume in USD in the month of February alone.
The National Basketball Association’s NFT marketplace, NBA Top Shot, basketball fans have already spent$230 million trading NBA Top Shot cards. Users can buy video highlights from their favorite NBA players on the blockchain-based platform. Recently, a rare Lebron James highlight sold to the highest bidder for a fresh $200,000.
Azealia Banks is not the first artist to ride the NFT wave. The late rapper MF DOOM auctioned off a set of digital masks via NFT. Last week, Wu-Tang announced the release of a 400-pound book of exclusive photography via NFT.
“Literally the most expensive NFT ever,” Banks wrote on Instagram. According to VICEand Foundation, an NFT marketplace, the tape is the first-ever audio sex tape NFT.
Rulton Fyder is an anonymous artist who “recontextualizes” other artists’ works as NFTs. The name seems to be a play on Fulton Ryder, the pseudonym of artist Richard Prince,
