Austin, Texas native and a University of Arizona honors graduate Bakari Henderson was beaten to death in Greece on Friday by 10 people.

The incident took place at a venue called Bar Code in the town of Laganas, Greece on Friday (July 7). A 32-year-old from Serbia and a 34-year-old from Greece were arrested shortly after the fight, ANA-MPA reported. Media reports said that the 32-year-old is a British citizen of Serbian origin, and that both men worked at the bar.

The six others, all from Serbia, were arrested later after they were recognized from surveillance videos and police raided the hotel where they were staying Witnesses stated Henderson was involved in a confrontation with a bouncer at the bar at around 3:15 a.m. Friday morning. Police have reviewed the footage that shows the security guard approaching the table Henderson and his friends were sitting at and began to shout at them.

Bakari supposedly punched the security guard which led to a fight breaking out. It was at that moment when a gang of 10 people beat up the 22-year-old. The young man died from his injuries at a local hospital.

IS THE FAILING JUSTICE SYSTEM PUSHING AFRICAN AMERICANS TOWARD STREET JUSTICE?

The city is a popular tourist destination and gets a little rowdy. This is not the first time there has been trouble here before. In 2011, an argument with taxi drivers led to the stabbing death of a British teen. And last year, a young woman from Britain said a spiked vodka drink left her blind.

Bakari Henderson was visiting Greece in pursuit of his entrepreneurial dreams to launch his own fashion line.

The Henderson family says their main focus now is getting Bakari’s body back home. The U.S. State Department says it’s helping the family and is in touch with Greek authorities. Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has raised more than $30,000 to cover transportation and funeral costs.
